BOYS LACROSSE - INTRAMURAL PROGRAM (Open to boys in First, Second, Third and Fourth Grades)
The goals of the Intramural Program are to introduce the basic skills and concepts of lacrosse, develop sportsmanship and teamwork and have fun! We achieve this by continuing to develop basic skills and concepts while in a full pads environment that is structured, safe and appropriately competitive.
Each player must supply their own helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, stick and mouth guard. Goalie equipment will be provided. In the event that providing equipment is a hardship, please contact any of the SAA Boys Lacrosse Directors.
The Intramural Program will meet once weekly on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, starting in mid-to-late March and ending in late May or early June. The first half of the practice will be instructional; the second half of the practice will be games (8 v 8, short field format). No travel is required. Boys in 3rd and 4th grade who are participating in the SEPYLA Travel Program are strongly encouraged to attend Intramurals.
Program Details:
- Avoid "fiddle sticks" or any sticks that are not full regulation size and scale. These are for fun not for skill drills and competition.
- Beginners faced with choosing from multiple styles and designs should try to begin with a "Universal" head type.
- Recommend that parents of 1/2 graders cut their stick shafts to around 38" total length (including the stick head). In general, the shorter the stick shaft, the easier it is for them to learn to throw, catch and cradle. A shortened shaft can ultimately inhibit growth and play and so be sure to transition your child to a full size shaft as they become proficient and begin to advance in competitive play.
Volunteers:
We do need parent volunteers to help coach. We recognize that Lacrosse will be new to many of the parents but if you like coaching we can put you with an experienced coach so you can learn with your son. From our own experience, there is nothing better than learning and growing in a sport with your son!
